GETFund, Savelugu MCE Cut Sod for Major Education Projects in Municipality
The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has today, Saturday, May 16, 2026, cut sod for the construction of seven (7) GETFund funded projects in the Savelugu Municipality.
When completed, the municipality is expected to witness a major boost in educational infrastructure, quality education and improved learning outcomes.
Speaking at a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a two-storey girls’ dormitory at Savelugu Senior High School, the Deputy Administrator of GETFund, Alhassan Sualihu Dandawa, thanked the Chief Executive Officer of the Students Loan Trust Fund, Dr. Saajida Shiraz, and the Municipal Chief Executive, Alhassan Fuseini, for playing key roles in securing the projects for Savelugu.
Alhassan Sualihu Dandawa pledged that the project would be completed on schedule, adding that the contractor had been given a timeline for completion.
The Deputy Administrator, however, warned residents of Savelugu to desist from visiting the project sites to request the purchase of building materials being used for the construction. According to him, such actions could influence the contractor and compel him to deliver shoddy work.
He further urged the management of Savelugu Senior High School not to hesitate to report the contractor to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) or the Municipal Director of Education if they observed any substandard work.
Meanwhile, Sualihu Dandawa has assured that all abandoned projects in the school will be completed. He stated that Ghana Education Trust Fund is in talks with the Ministry of Finance to secure clearance for the completion of such projects.
On his part, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alhassan Fuseini, revealed that his office had, over the past few months, received reports of overcrowding in Savelugu Senior High School. He added that the two-storey girls’ dormitory would help decongest the school’s dormitories.
The MCE further hinted that sod-cutting ceremonies would be held for six other projects. He thanked President John Dramani Mahama for the “Reset Agenda,” adding that the provision of adequate infrastructure was a key component of the agenda.
Speaking at the programme, the headmaster, Alhassan Abdulai, on behalf of the school’s board and management, expressed profound gratitude to the MCE, Honorable Alhassan Fuseini, and the Deputy Administrator of GETFund, Alhassan Sualihu Dandawa, for bringing one of the projects to Savelugu Senior High School.
He noted that the project would augment teaching and learning and improve academic outcomes.
The headmaster added that the two-storey girls’ dormitory would facilitate the transition of the school to a single-track system.
The projects earmarked for construction include;
1. A 2-storey girls' dormitory at Savelugu Senior High School.
2. A 12-unit classroom block at Pong Tamale Senior High School.
3. A 6-unit classroom block with a 6-seater toilet facility at Pong Tamale Experimental School.
4. A 6-unit classroom block with a 6-seater toilet facility at Yizegu Primary School.
5. A 6-unit classroom block with a 6-seater toilet facility at Moglaa Primary School.
