NASPA Elections: Savelugu Municipal National Service Personnel Elect New Executives to Champion Welfare and Unity
The Savelugu Municipal Branch of the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) on Thursday, May 21, 2026, elected new executives to champion the welfare of personnel in the municipality.
Although most positions, including the Vice President role, were uncontested, the presidential and financial secretary positions were keenly contested.
Addressing the personnel before the election, the Savelugu Municipal Manager of the National Service Authority (NSA), Mr. Iddrisu Ibrahim, urged them to vote for competent executives capable of representing their interests effectively and contesting for positions at the regional and national levels.
According to him, some former municipal executives had, over the past three years, successfully contested and won regional elections. He therefore encouraged the yet to be elected executives to continue the good work of their predecessors, when elected, by positively projecting the image of the municipality at both regional and national levels.
Mr. Iddrisu also cautioned some recalcitrant personnel to nip their lackadaisical attitude toward work in the bud.
He advised personnel to remain at their various posts during working hours and urged them to link their bank accounts to their individual NSS portals.
A total of one hundred and twenty-nine (129) personnel, made up of university graduates, nurses, and teachers, participated in the election.
In the presidential race, Abdul Rahaman Issah polled thirty-nine (39) votes, representing 30.2 percent of the total valid votes cast. His contender, Issahaku Alhassan, secured an overwhelming ninety (90) votes, representing 69.8 percent of the valid votes cast, and was subsequently declared the Savelugu Municipal NASPA President.
For the Financial Secretary position, Alhassan Ibrahim obtained sixty-three (63) votes, representing 49.2 percent of the valid votes cast, while Haruna Ibrahim polled sixty-five (65) votes, representing 50.8 percent, to win the position.
Meanwhile, Abdul Rahaman Iddrisu (Vice President), Issahaku Suzana (Women’s Commissioner), and Hamza Abu (Secretary) were all elected unopposed.
Mr. Issahaku declared as NASPA President
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Municipal NASPA President, Issahaku Alhassan, expressed gratitude to the personnel for the overwhelming support and confidence reposed in him. He pledged to champion the welfare of all personnel to the best of his ability and assured members that he would work closely with the other executives to uphold the good image of the association.
